Agentic Search, the idea behind this site
When searching and finding stop being the same act.
For decades search meant two steps: get a list, pick from it yourself. The second step is disappearing. What that means for companies is set out here.
Definition
What agentic search describes.
Agentic search is search where a system does the research and delivers a result rather than a selection. It rewrites the question, fetches sources, weighs them, summarises and names two to four references. In its stronger form it also acts: compares prices, fills in forms, prepares a purchase.
The term is deliberately broader than GEO or LLMO. Those describe work on visibility. Agentic search describes the shift that work is responding to.
Two things about it are new. First, the selection that used to sit with a person disappears: miss the two to four sources and you do not exist in that moment. Second, the machine reads differently from a human. It looks for checkable claims, agreement between sources, and structure.
That has an uncomfortable consequence. A large share of what makes up websites today is worthless to this reader: mood, claims without evidence, language that circles a point instead of making it.
Mechanics
How an agentic answer comes about.
Simplified, and weighted differently by each system. But in this order.
-
Understand
The question is broken down into several sub-questions.
-
Search
Several queries at once, often worded differently from the original.
-
Read
Pages get fetched and checked for usable statements.
-
Reconcile
Contradictions between sources get weighed, one version wins.
-
Answer
A summary with two to four references. The rest falls away.
Step four is the interesting one. That is where it gets decided whether your details or those of a directory from 2019 end up in the answer. Which is exactly what the AI Brain works on.
Honest about the term
Why we still do not sell it as a slogan.
Almost nobody searches for “agentic search” in German. Building a sales pitch on the term means selling to people who have not heard it. Our service pages are therefore called GEO, AEO, LLMO and AI SEO, because that is what people look for.
This page has a different job. It defines the term so a system can cite it when somebody asks. Its measure is not traffic but how often it turns up in answers.
One more thing belongs here: much of this field is young convention rather than settled practice. Where we are guessing, we say so. Where we measured, there is a date next to it.
